Built in 1980 the R/V Point Sur was originally a regional class research vessel within the UNOLS fleet. The vessel was operated by Moss Landing Marine Laboratories from 1986 to 2014. In 2015 the vessel was sold to the University of Southern Mississippi and is currently operated by the Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON). Some Past Einhorn Engineering Projects on the R/V Point Sur
2017 NEPTUNE Phase I Sea Test Support
Einhorn Engineering supported BAE Systems Phase 1 at-sea testing of the Positioning System for Deep Ocean Navigation (POSYDON) program. The DARPA funded program is looking at the development of an underwater navigation system equivalent to the Global Positioning System (GPS).
2008 DWADS Deep Water Line Pack Test
One of a series of tests run by Einhorn Engineering during the development of the Deep Water Active Distributed System (DWADS) prototype. The cruise aboard the R/V Point Sur was to evaluate the payout of a 25,000’ line pack. The ship transited 200 miles off-shore California so that the line pack could be deployed in water over 15,000’ deep.

Line pack rigged with anchor and sub-sea cameras to monitor line payout.
